Dastan's Basement announces “Limbo,” a solo exhibition of works by Ali Akbar Sadeghi (b. 1937), opening on December 22, 2023, and continuing through December 29, 2023. This exhibition features a rare trio of works by Sadeghi from the late 1970s, exhibited publicly for the first time.
Ali Akbar Sadeghi (b. 1937, Tehran), a painter, director, and illustrator, stands as one of Iran's most prominent figures in contemporary art, his creations wielding significant influence on the visual culture of Iran. This exhibition marks the second collaboration between Ali Akbar Sadeghi Foundation and Dastan, following "Mad", a solo exhibition of the artist at Parallel Circuit (June-August 2022).
The triptych comprises a selection from the private collection of Ernst Fuchs, a former employee of Pars Grundig in Tehran and an old friend of Ali Akbar Sadeghi. These artworks reflect the spirit of their time and the sociopolitical atmosphere. Themes such as the suicides of soldiers and elderly bodies in surreal and dreamlike settings against dark backgrounds allude to the events around the 1979 Revolution.
In 1980, Fuchs purchased eight works by Sadeghi, including these three. Enamoured with Iranian culture and fluent in Persian, Fuchs returned to his native Switzerland after seventeen years in Iran, taking his art collection. Over the years, the bond between these two friends waned.
In 2017, the Ali Akbar Sadeghi Foundation presented a retrospective of the artist in collaboration with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. At the time, the current works could not be located to be featured in the exhibition. However, less than six months ago, a mutual friend put the two back in contact, ultimately leading to the return of this collection to Iran for public display.
A short documentary produced by the Sadeghi Foundation chronicling the return of these works is presented as part of the exhibition.
زیرزمین دسـتان آثـار علیاکبر صـادقی )م. ۱۳۱۶( بـا عـنوان »بـرزخ« را از جـمعه ۱ دی مـاه ۱۴۰۲ بـه نـمایش میگـذارد. این نـمایش تـا 8 دی مـاه
۱۴۰۲ بـرقـرار خـواهـد بـود. این نـمایش شـامـل یک سـهگـانـهی نـقاشی از صـادقی مـربـوط بـه اواخـر دهـهی ۱۳۵۰ اسـت که تـاکنون کمتر دیده شـده و اکنون پس از گذشت حدود ۴۰ سال، برای نخستین بار به طور عمومی به نمایش درمیآید. علی اکبر صـادقی )م. ۱۳۱۶، تهـران( نـقاش، کارگـردان و تـصویرگـر، از مـطرحتـرین چهـرههـای هـنر مـعاصـر ایران اسـت که سـاخـتههـایش تـاثیر بسـزایی بـر فـرهـنگ تـصویری ایران گـذاشـته اسـت. این نـمایش دومین همکاری بنیاد صـادقی بـا دسـتان اسـت که پـس از نـمایش »دیوانـه« )تیر تا شهریور ۱۴۰۱( در مدار موازی شکل گرفته است. این سـهگـانـه منتخبی از مجـموعـهی خـصوصی ارنسـت فـوکس، کارمـند سـابـق شـرکت »پـارس گـرونـدیک« تهـران و از دوسـتان قـدیمی علی اکبر صـادقی اسـت. این آثـار بـازتـاب دورهای ویژه از تـاریخ سیاسی و اجـتماعی مـحسوب میشـونـد. مـوضـوعـاتی چـون خـودکشی سـربـازان و بـدنهـای پیر و فرتوت در فضاهای وهمآلود و خوابگونه با پس زمینههایی تاریک، همگی حکایت از جریانات حول و حوش انقلاب دارند. فـوکس در سـال ۱۳۶۰ هشـت اثـر از صـادقی خـریداری کرد که این سـهگـانـه هـم جـزئی از آنهـاسـت. اوشیفتهی فـرهـنگ ایران اسـت و زبـان فـارسی را بـه خـوبی صـحبت میکند. فـوکس پـس از مـأمـوریت هـفدهسـالـهی خـود در ایران بـه زادگـاهـش در سـوئیس بـازگشـت و این مجـموعـه را نیز هـمراه خـود از ایران خـارج کرد. پـس از بـازگشـت او بـه تـدریج ارتـباط این دو دوسـت کمرنـگ میشـود. در سـال ۱۳۹۶ بنیاد علی اکبر صـادقی در همکاری بـا مـوزهی هـنرهـای مـعاصـر تهـران در پـروژه »مـروری بـر آثـار و زنـدگی علی اکبر صـادقی« در پی نـمایش این آثـار بـود که در آن زمـان بـه دلیل عـدم دسـترسی بـه آقـای فـاکس، امکان این کار بـه وجـود نیامـد. سـرانـجام کمتر از شـش مـاه پیش، این دوسـتی قـدیمی بـه واسـطهی یک دوسـت مشـترک صـادقی و فـاکس جـانی تـازه گـرفـت و بـه همین تـرتیب امکان بـازگـردانـدن و نـمایش این مجـموعـه در ایران بـه وجود آمد. بنیاد صادقی از روند بازگشت این آثار به ایران مستنداتی تهیه کرده که در قالب فیلمی کوتاه تدوین شده و به نمایش درمیآید.
